Hi, guys I am about to install a second battery (deep cycle unit)in my DII, basically for in-car electrical equipments and possibly a winch. How do I recharge it? Also, if I want to change the main starter battery, I suppose I can't just disconnect the old one and connect the new one, right? what should I do? I know some people have had problems with alarm when they disconnect the battery, as well as radio and ac. Charles |

I installed 2 red top optimas in my D2 in the original battery tray. I had to cut out where the jack sits but you can do it. I ran mine in parrallel and had no problems with alarm and stereo. John post on Expedition exchange helped me out. Good Luck |

Charles Dual battery management systems are available as I understand from your ARB stockest which charge battery no. 1 until it reaches 13.2 volts and then connects no.1 & 2 together and 2 recieves the overflow charge. When the ignition is turned off the batteries are seperated again and your aux electricals won't drain your start battery. Also a winch is better powered from your start battery rather than a deep cycle. An Auto Electrician can also provide a primitive dual battery control system using solanoids. If you run the batteries in parallel you run the risk of not having one charged to start the car. Make sure all draw from battery is off,ie ignition etc, before disconnecting battery. Always remove the negative terminal first. Good luck. Geoff |

Charles, I didnt have either one give me a problem, the only issue was i had a bad optima battery when installed. After replacment i was fine. My installation time with cutting the tray to fit took 3hrs real time. MONGO has a nice picture set up in disco2owners.com in yahoo groups. Good Luck ps, John Lee from EE helped alot with problems i thought i did. |
