What's up with the blacked out bonnets? I think they look cool but do people actually find they have a functional value? I've never really had a problem with glare off the bonnet but maybe I've just been lucky. Does it not increase engine temps a lot in the summer? As I said, I think it looks cool and actually plan on doing it, but I just wondered what drove people to do it in the first place.

Because the Camel Trophy Rovers did it.

LOL....

The glare it cuts down on is from when you have lights all the way across the top of your roofrack.

I use the reflection of the overhead streetlights on the hood to know that the light has changed from red to green, so I don't have to crane my neck as much. And, the wife'd kill me if I painted mine black, too.... lol.....

I understand it to be for glare reduction but that can have its drawbacks as Leslie said. At night there almost appears to be a void between the winshield and the front end which takes a bit of getting used to as I'm finding out. Still looks really cool though!

OK, answer this, "why do football players wear the eye-black in domes and at night games?" JMcD
