If I were to make my own sliders, who's sliders would be best to copy?

Neal, I would take a look at RTE, Aedofab, and the AB sliders for some ideas. The big issue to decide is the mounting: sill, frame, or both

"Dude, that's like saying "Who should I rip off?"...."

Leslie, I don't see it that way unless you actually turn around and sell the products to the public. If you look at a vendor's product for design ideas on a one-off custom job, I'm not sure where the ripping off part is going on.

As M.K. pointed out, crawl under your Rover, and you'll see what you need-to-know to make some.

And, it's one thing to look at them for ideas, but to actually copy them, well... these guys took the time to crawl under there, and to figure out what they wanted in their product and what they didn't, made test-sets, found out what did or didn't work, so on and so forth.

I agree, if he's not selling them, just making his own set, then it's not illegal, but still just wrong to do if it's a "copy". There's a fine line bwtween being inspired by, and ripping off... fiscal considered or not...

Yeah, I might be flattered if someone liked a design of mine enough to copy it, but when I've got 'em for sale for not-much-over-labor to make the thing, then I'd be pissed a bit...

IMHO, FWIW....

I was actually just thinking about this during my micro economics lecture (you can tell it was really interesting;-). Anyway, I was thinking the sill mounted ones seem like a good idea (I can't remember why but I was convinced of this during a previous thread on this subject). Their one downside seems to be a lack of strength in the sill. You can't also brace to the frame due to movement in the body mounts but what about braces that bolted tot he floorpan? I know the floor is probably not super strong but maybe it is enough in addition to the sills? When my Rover finally sells and I get a Disco, I plan to make some and want them to stick out. I know this magnifies the lack of strength in the sill issue due to the leverage. Anyway, what do y'all think?

I think it's worth the money to buy RTE, thats the design you want. You get it right the first time you dont waste: time, money, fingernails, cuss words... No need to reinvent the wheel. And how can you beat the value of having it all ready to bolt and rivnut on. I don't think you could even match the strength and sill sandwitching design if you worked on them for several months. That time is worth any extra money. Mike J.
