I bought a 97 D1 last August, and have been pulling all LR suggested maintanence as time and money allows. The swivel pins (balls) don't have any level or drain plugs. This is an ABS model. I cleaned and sprayed and scrubbed both housings clean, and for the life of me, cannot find the plugs. I have found the faces on the casting the plugs SHOULD be, but nope, they ain't there. Can anyone tell me if the Ball (pin?) housings might have only a fill plug? Thanks. |

For the later Discos, that is correct. Instead of using oil, they switched to grease, so they deleted the drain. -L |

Thank you, Leslie. I'm feeling much better now. And I've got tubes of grease for any future tear downs!!! |

You dont have to grease them on the newer D1s maintanence free forever. |

Uh..... I don't suggest not ever greasing them.... Maintenence-free, until it grenades and you have to replace it, unless you go ahead and keep it greased... -L |

My 300tdi leaked oil. Very worrying since I was driving on holiday and towing through France, Spain and Portugal. On return to UK Landy garage removed and cleaned the swivels, then re-filled with appropriate grease. Method is now recommended by UK Landrover for 'leaky' models. |
