Please advise, my kid kicked the underside of the glove box and somehow the hazards became stuck on w/o hitting the button to turn them on. The only way I can get them to stop is by pulling the fuse out. Disconnecting thebattery didn't help How can I fix this? Please advise.

don't they turn off when you shut off the engine and restart?

What year is it? Did you try the reset button that's in the engine bay on the back firewall near the tranny dipstick?

I recall previous threads where there is an inertial switch in the alarm module (not the same as the fuel shutoff inertial switch on the firewall) that activates the hazards when the truck is crashed. Perhaps your kid hit the sweet spot and simulated a crash? I thought Blue's shutoff/restart was the reset when this happens when you go over an obstacle too hard on the trail.

Dah, that is a fuel cut-off reset switch that I described.... but, if restarting didn't cut it off, then you'd have to wonder if maybe the hazard reset might have been wired into it... I doubt it, but w/ Lucas electrics, who knows....

Confirmed in the manual that shutting the ignition off and turning it back on is the correct reset procedure. Did your doors unlock also? If so, that confirms it is the alarm inertial switch, since the doors should unlock and the hazards come on at the same time. According to the manual, the doors cannot be relocked for 30 seconds, and it is after this time-out that you must turn the ignition on and off to reset.

Oops it's a 97 D1, Hi turning it on and off didnt help, I'll look for the reset botton. I beleive it is somehow connected to the alarm as when I took that fuse out the alarm doesnt work and I have to manualy lock the doors. Thanks

Mike:
I'm assuming the fuel inertial reset didn't change anything? The alarm ecu is mounted "under the right fascia on a bracket", i.e., somewhere down there under the glove box. Since that's what you said took the kick, you probably should get under there and/or take out the glove box to look and see if you find something mashed or a connector partially disengaged. The 1995 electrical manual does not show what the alarm unit looks like, or where it's positioned (other than the quote above), but says that the connector to the alarm unit should be black, with room for 16 wires (two rows of 8 pins), but only having 11 wires coming out of it. Have no idea whether the 97 will be the same, but it's worth a try. Good luck.
