Hi, I am new to disco's and I'm getting ready to go wheelin with it. Its a 95 D1 and I have removed the airdam, ordered jate rings, receiver shackle, snatch straps and shackles. My question is how would one use a jackall/highlift on stock bumpers? Can you with out damage? Do I need the curved bumper adapter? I want a to use a highlift more as a recovery tool than anything else. But I am curious if it can be used on a stock trucks bumpers. Thanks Andy 95 D1, slc UT |

Hi-lifts and stock bumpers don't mix. You 'can' use the rear receiver hitch, but I'm not particularly fond of that. Aftermarket bumpers help a lot in that dept. Some have argued that sliders are a good idea to add, if not for other advantages, to have a way to jack on the sides. FWIW... -L |

stock steel bumpers can't hold the Disco up with a hilift so you can change a flat? |

I wouldn't do it. I've seen some who wished they hadn't tried.

Blue, i think stock Disco steel bumpers will bend if you jump on them. OTOH, my jeep's stock aluminum bumper has no problem with being jacked up with a hi-lift... Leslie has one, too. peter |

Peter, I jumped on your stock RR front bumper quite a bit when you were in that hole and it was fine Seriously, I guess I never thought of hilift not working on stock steel. Another fine reason for sliders & new bumpers. I've had leakers offroad but never had to change the tire. Plenty of morning-after changes though... |

I have a bent rear disco bumper - want to subject it to some tests? These cut-outs for rear lights really make it weak. You may get lucky and jack it in a single point where it could stand the load - but why? It's a royal PITA to use a Hi-Lift to change a tire where a floor jack would do it. i only once used the hi-lift to change tire - using the floor jack was totally out of Q. on a 20-25 degree slope covered with 2ft of snow. It was on a jeep, which has some obscene amount of wheel travel. I had just enough time to yank off the tire before the jack slipped off and the jeep feel in snow. However, that time, i used the front brush guard to jack the jeep. peter |
