i have a stock brush guard on my d1 ....im wondering if i can use the rings as a recovery point..possibly connecting two d rings there then using some kind of a tow rope that is attached to both d rings...would this work...the brush bar is on there as solid as can be with bolts... |

jmon - search the archives on this one - there have been many posts - both for and against. The archives also have suggestions on how to strengthen the brush bar mounts. There are a few after market 'bolt-on' products that can be used in conjunction with the brush bar. Take the time to read through the archives, lots of people have commented and provided their personal experiences. DiscoWeb has a wealth of knowledge stored and it woudl only pay you to 'mine' it. |

Alyssa is wrong here. If you treat them right the reco points on the factory brush bar are fine. I have winched on them plenty of times without a failure. The factory does not recommend using those points as a recovery point on a Discovery 1 Factory Brush Bar. That isn't my personal opinion. |

The "Factory" wont tell ya to use them cause they know what will hapen if you abuse them. I agree with the "factory" in that regard. But then again , if you are a dumb ass shit will happen no matter what you do..... Kyle |

Jmon; take a look at how the brush bar is attached. Two bolts through the frame rails. The brush bar sweeps down from the frame rails under the air dam (if ya' have it :-)). This creates a lever. If the bolts holding the brush bar are loose there is the possiblity of the brush bar rotating 'back' into your hood. You have to satisfy yourself that the brush bar is tight and doesn't shift. Obviously getting 'tugged' out of a mud pit by some guy going 20 mph might be a bit much!!!! As Kyle says - use a little common sense - crawl underneath and take a look yourself.!! |
