Hi there, We're new to discoweb, so this is my first posting(so don't give me too hard a time about these questions!) Have had a '96 Disco for about 3 months now and it's time to do the suspension (the driveway has finally melted so I don't have to lay in the snow to work on it!) I'm planning on using the Rovertym 2" springs but can't decide on shocks. That's where I'm looking for some opinions. A relatively mild lift to fit larger tires is what I'm after, we live in northernMichiganso there is no exterme rock crawling but we do have plenty of good trails with sand, mud, ruts, hills, etc. Do you guys think this is the right route and which shocks will work better? Currently the Rover is used about 75% of the time on road and is on 245/75-16 tires with no lift. Any opinions are appreciated! |

No flame intended by my post, but we exhaust this subject once a week- and I don't want you to think we here at discoweb are ignoring your post, but right now, stop reading and look at the left side of this screen- see the picture advertising the Moab 2001 video? Scroll down to the Utilities folder, and click the keyword search link- type in your question and put your entire question in quotations- BAHDOW! your answers will be found within the number of posts that come out of your search----- I think we should move to add a F.A.Q header on the BB? |

I did the search and it didnt answer my question. I've had my rover only since Christmas, when the heatercore went out, I took it apart and installed 2" RTE springs but its shockless, sitting on jackstands next to the MG. As the heatercore arrived yesterday, I need to get shocks so I can get it on the road. In my opinion, there doesnt appear to be a 2" longer shock for stock mounts. OMEs are only an inch or so longer. The ranchos I've looked thru thier entire catalog and the only close model is equates to the stock length expanded/collapsed. I'd sure appreciate someone's experience with shocks and a 2" spring situation... |

Call or Email John at Rovertym. He can advise you as to what works best with his spings, I'm sure. |

Alright, I bought FOX 2.0 series from Off Road Warehouse (on sale $158/ea) with resevoirs and after speaking with John, he sold me his normal rear mounts that should work fine with the FOXs and the 2" RTE springs, along with different mounts up front that will work with the FOXs as well. Pleasant experience, will take pics and put them on the bulletin board when I get it done and running. (I still hold on that theres no good 'normal' shock for 2" lift with stock D1 shock mounts...not that anyone has offered on the board to share at least) |

Rancho RS9000's - 9027 for the front and 9234 in the rear. You'll need RoverTym's top shock mount to fit the 9234's in the rear. Not a great shock, but it answers your question. 2" of lift does not necessarily allow you to run a longer shock. Pay close attention to the compressed length of the shock. That is what is critical. If the spring doesn't bind before it hits the bumpstops, then you can't run a longer shock. You have to add taller bumpstops or change the shock mounts to run a longer shock. Thanks, Mike B. |
