The light for the gear shift selector works until you flip on the running/headlghts, then it goes out! The lights in the buttons for the windows and heated seats also won't work. Big short? some other fuse?

Mike, first check fuse 2 in the passenger side fuse box.
Its a 10 amp fuse that powers switch illumination as well as license plate light and multi function unit. See if it is blown. If not try to find a wiring diagram that has those components listed. I have a crappy Haynes that doesent seem to list anything I,m looking for. Good luck,
