I sometimes hear a clunking noise when I switch from Drive to Reverse. Anyone else hear this? Also, when I do the reverse operation, it's not so noticable. Is my transmission going? Is there anything proactive I can do? I've got about 84,000miles on it. Thanks, Kris 1999 Disco SD |

Supposedly it's "normal". I question anything that sounds as horrible as that noise does. LR service people have stated this along with our brethren on DWEB. Turn up your radio. => |

Ive heard the same thing, its just normal. My LR service tech told me the same thing. Just get used to it. After a while you dont even notice it. |

I've had the same thing since new but only when cold and it seems if I hold the brake really hard when going to reverse, it's not as pronounced or sometimes doesn't even "clunk". Leads me to believe it's slack somewhere in the drivetrain. Alas, I've been told the same as above. |

I was going to chime in and say mine has done it for years and has not broken yet.....but then I realized that it will break pulling out of my driveway if I posted. So...no comment... |

dave t, that's funny. Well anyway, good to hear that it's common. Just had me worried a bit. I cringe every time I hear it and my g/f suggests that its going to brake every time she hears it. I'll show her these posts to give her peace of mind. |

I found by putting the trans in park and waiting a few moments the clunk is reduced considerably ! |

Hi y'all The clunk you hear could be worn bushes at the rear. Just changed my LR originals for Polybushes which did the trick very nicely. Still a slight noise, but I think thats more to do with transmission than bushes - DONT WORRY, BE HAPPY Eddie V8 (Just outside London, England) |
