Just got my truck back from dealer who performed the recall replacement of brake sytem ECU. I also had them check for why my brake warning lamp would come on intermittently. They said my fluid was low and topped it off. Well, of course, the light was coming on on the way home from the dealer and wouldn't you know it- the brake fluid was low! They didn't add any fluid, I have no fluid leaks! So I'm looking for the new computer ECU and all I can find are original computers with the 99 date codes! I don't think they replaced the recalled part!!! Can anyone tell me where this particular part is located? Please help me so that I don't look like an a$$ when I jump all over them for putting me and my family in harms way, while profiting from L.R.N.A. |

The ECU recall is for 2000 model year vehicles, so it would not have been performed on your truck. What they did relating to your vehicle's brake system was the ABS sensor recall. You also were checked to see if your throtle cable was frayed. If it wasn't frayed, it wasn't replaced. |

They sent me a recall notice which stated mine was part of the recall. My receipt from L.R. states " performed D-263 replaced SLABS ECU." part # 1 SRD000070 ECU SLABS. 1.20hrs. labor. Any ideas where this part is located? And, yes, they checked the throttle cable for fraying as well. |

Hmmm. Ok, I must have misunderstood what I read at the dealership. The instructions we received seemed to say that only 2000 model years were getting new ECUs. Sorry, but I don't know where it is located. Hopefully someone else will. If not, I'll ask at work tomorrow. Sorry I couldn't be more help! |

The most likely reason why your brake fluid is low is that your pads are worn check them asap, don't just add fluid! If your dealer did not know this go somewhere else. Ron |

That would be great, Alyssa. Please post what you find out. BTW- cool name! I'd like to change my name, but I'm a little p.o.'d right now as I'm preparing to go on an 800 mile trip tomorrow with my wife and 3 kids! I guess I'll be keeping one hand on the emergency brake just in case! |

Ron- they did check the pads while my wife watched as she picked up the truck. Of course, if they looked at their computer they would have realized they replaced all 4 sets of pads 2700 miles ago! Maybe they were just checking if they ACTUALLY DID change the pads. |

Ok that is odd. Something is wrong. Lose bleed screw/leak, or best case they did not check/refill when they did the pad change. Any obvious leaks? BTW I drive with my hand on the ebrake all the time, so does Alyssa Brake failure is a bitch, but it is much better when you are ready for it. Unfortunately my ebrake was WAY out of adjustment when mine failed on the RR dropped it into first and slowly coasted into a tree to stop (no damage). Ron |

I would expect (since Discoverys change so little) that the ECU is located behind the glove box, close to the firewall and to the right, like it is on older Discos. |

The recall also effects the 99s DII,the service manager told me they change the SLABS ECU which is located behind the glove compartment. George |

Yep. The SLABS ECU is the ABS & Traction Control computer, and it is located in the right kick panel (under the A-pillar). |
