i had my 98 disco out in some mud and off road today some was deep and splashed alot when i hit it thats the fun part the bad part is when i got back on the road it wasn't but 200 feet and it just went dead and wouldn't crank the battery sounded strong and tried to crank even jumper cables didn't help their was a ticking noise when i turned the key enough for the radio and stuff to come on and it was a constant tick and i figuired that out to be the two front fans behind my grill, when i tried cranking it the fan or whatever inside the alternator turned if that helps i'm not that high tech about engines what does this sound like, distributer got wet , alternator i have no clue please help |

Blake, When you say that it wouldn't crank - do you mean it wouldn't turn over at all? If so, that's not good - could be hydrolock. If you pulled enough water into the airbox and then it sucked it into the intake, you could hace some serious issues. Pull a few spark plugs and see if you get water - better yet, pull them all and then try to crank it. If it still doesn't crank - then it's bent rod(s), etc - if it cranks easily and spits out water, then change the oil and try to start it. OTOH - if it already cranks - still check the air box for water and check the oil. The 98 is a gems motor, so check your ECU on the rear passenger side for water. If it is soaked unhook it and dry it out with a hair dryer and all the connections and then just pray. Bill |
