Hello all !

Problem - My Disco's rear end waddles like a duck at highway speeds especially when changing lanes. Any slight movement of the steering wheel results in a rear "waddle" about 1/2 second later.

Something is loose?? Bushings?

It is a'95 - 65k D1 with new OME Medium duty Front & Rear Spring/Shock Combo.

I have had my trailing arms come loose at the frame end. Check those and check out the bushings while your down there.

Check all of your steering components up front, if the front steering rod is even slightly bent it'll cause your disco to list like a ship.

If so, get it fixed ASAP! You are an accident just waiting to happen.

Check for busted shocks while your under there. You wouldn't believe how bad a vehicle handles with a busted shock. Hit a bump in a turn at speed and the thing is almost uncontrollable.

I had a guy look over the Rover today.
He was under the vehicle for some time. He checked many things including:
Rear Trailing arms - Solid
Bushings - Good
Steering components - Good
Shocks - new
He test drove it with me and noticed the same thing I noticed. The only thing he can think of is that the front end needs a camber adjustment because of the lift. He said it is relatively common for the Heavy duty OME springs but not the Medium springs which I have.
His suggestion is to install an OME camber kit or to bend the leading arms?...but he said the OME castor kit will limit articulation while bending the arms would not.

Thoughts?

I have the OME HD shock/spring set and it is rock solid. It actually feels more stable on the road than the OEM. I did replace the steering damper with the OME damper at the same time. I have the BFG 235 85 ATs. I don't know the pressure but they are hard.

Did you have any suspension issues before installing the new springs / dampers? Did you encounter any problems while installing them? Are the bushings original? What tires are you running and what is the tire pressure?

Yes, I had slight handling problems before the OME Spring/Shock set but it seems to have compounded the problem. The bushings are original. Tires are new Dunlap Rover RT 245/75/16. Tire pressure appears OK. Will have to check in morning.

What was the problem before? Perhaps someone on the board can point toward the diagnosis of the original problem and it might be the root of the current problem??
