I want to hardwire an inverter or put a power socket in my cargo area. Can I get power from the AC unit? (95 Disco)

IMO - go straight to battery with any inverter. Depending on size, they draw lots of juice and you don't know what gauge wiring is used to power the blower in the rear AC - probably pretty small.

it's only a 400 watt inverter. I doubt ir would draw more that the rear AC. Would it? I was told to run straight to the battery before, except I forgot to metion that I had rear air.

My opinion would be battery directly, but found this also:

"When connecting the inverter to the battery use the thickest wire available, in the shortest length practical. If battery and inverter are within 4', use #4 gauge. If 4'-6', use #2. If more than 6', use #0 gauge wire (#0 gauge wire may require a "0 to 4 Gauge Adapter"). NOTE: This may vary among inverter models; check the Owner's Manual for the model you purchase before buying the wire for it."
