I saw Mark's post in the archives, but no resolution have I found so far...

Removed console and hand brake cable (CDL install) and now the hand brake button won't actuate. I push it in and it just locks, no spring back action. I'm sure I've preloaded it properly onto the rachet mechanism and I've lubed it quite well. No parts seem to be missing and the shop manual is somewhat vague about the mechanism (no detail diagrams). Any ideas.

yeah, anyone out there have a good idea as to what the problem may be. The mechanism seems too damn simple to get screwed-up by simply releasing the P-brake cable form the lever. That is all that I did, and am quite sure that is all Mike did too.

Help, anyone, especially you folks out there associated with Dealers. Alyssa? anyone?

Mark

Just sent this to Mark...I depressed the button as far as I could, stuffed a lot of white lithium grease down in there, then using a screwdriver, I must've worked the button over 100 times until it loosened a bit, just enough to kind of work. I'm going with it.

I am doing this from memory but, I remember when I took my D-1 apart I had the same problem, it ended up that when I lifted the lever up so high the 'latch' flopped over the gears. Took it back apart and, using a small screwdriver, pushed the 'latch' back onto the gears.. Works great... Look up into the lever and see if that latch is in the wrong place.. Good Luck....JMcD
