Hi all curious if anyone is running the 255/85 on a 3 inch lift D1. Time for new tires and I am wanting something wider than the 235/85. Doesn't nesecarily have to be taller just wider and fit on my stock wheels. I know there are 265/75's but the price difference is ridiculous. Thanks for any input. Daniel |

I think Ho runs that size. You will lose power, I would assume, because they are 33 inches tall. It would be a good decision to get some new gearing. Especially if you live in a high altitude place. I think that 4.11 would be adequate, but not great. 4.56 will be about perfect, but I don't think that size is available for our pumpkins. Good luck. |

there are a few out there including myself running 255/85-16 and 285/75-16 as well. what you wanna know, if it can be done? yes it can be done. how much cutting/trimming you might ask? not a whole lot.
good luck. |

all right as far as a better fit between the 255 and the 285. I know the 285 is a tiny bit shorter but the width is my concearn on factory wheels. Would I have to do some sort of offsetting to run as wide as the 285 or is it bettet to go with the 255 and take the additional hight and loose some width to fit better. Pretty much which is easier to fit on stock wheels. Thanks, Daniel |

Sorry for a double message here but also if there are any pics here or someplace else of the 255 and 285's on a truck I would appreciate it. |

A member of my club (Solaros), Scott Bowden, is running that size with 4.11 gears. You can go to his photo gallery and check out the pics... Will |

Forgive me for being a moron... but why does altitude effect big wheels / power etc...? |

Ho- Do you have wheel spacers to re-gain some turning radius on the 255s? Or just more offset on the rims? I think the original poster was wondering about using his stock rims. Also, someone said 4.56s won't fit Discos, isn't GBR making a 4.56 set of gears? |

Any DII's running 255/85? If so how is the fit with a 2" lift? Cutting/Grinding? Thanks in advance. |

I run 275/70R16 Hancook T/A's on my DII standard rims, with pressures down as low as 8psi on the really soft sand and had no problems even though they are the DII standard skinny rims (7" i think, can't remember!!!) Minor rubbing on the front guard, just the soft plastic rubbing away, but no serious contact with anything at all. Oh yeah, I have a 2" lift! The tires look quite bulbous, not good for side wall stakes etc..., but great on boulders, sand etc. Good luck |

Richard, At higher altitudes, air is less dense, therefore an engine can rarely make it's rated hp without compressors (turbo, supercharges, etc). |

I just bit the bullet. Got the 3" RT lift + 2" spacers, welded the back door shut and cut out the arches darn near to the bottom of the back window. Stuffed some 35" SSRs in there and NOW Betty goes like greased goose snot. No sense debating between 31 and 31.5s. You want the tires to dictate where you go - or you to dictate to the tires where YOU want to go. HIT IT! (BTW, dual ARBs & Bilstein 12" SBs all 'round) |

I had to weld the back door shut in order to fit the tires at full stuff. The arch actually goes about 2" into the door. I don't have 4.10s either, but having a stick in 1 lo with 35s is darn near the same as 1 lo in an auto with 32s. Could be better, but one cash bomb at a time...Anybody gone like a greased Turkey Turd? |
