Turn your dome light on and try to start the truck. Does the dome light go dim? If so it is a battery / low voltage problem. If it does not it is probably the starter. My starter went out last week. I pulled it out and took it to an Auto-Electric shop. They disassembled it and the brushes were worn out to the wire. He cleaned it completely, put in a new brush set, turned the armature(sp?), and greased the gears (The starters are Bosch units so most places should have the brushes). After bench testing he decided to put on a new solenoid. It works great and spins the engine during start up much, much faster. This cost me $80 on Friday afternoon when a trail ride was coming up at 9:00 Saturday morning. The value of getting this done and going on a trail ride, Priceless! |
