Hello All, I attempted to correct that off centered steering wheel yesterday. I used the pickle fork tool to remove the joint from the knuckle, which tore the rubber gaiter revealing the old dried up gunk inside. Definitely no grease in there! Is there a kit to replace both of these on each end of the drag link? IF so, who, where and how much? Also, on another project, what socket do I need to remove the brake calipers? Looks like some weird metric star head. Thanks in advance! |

Atlantic British and Rovers North both carry a kit to replace the tie rod ends. I ordered mine from England beause it was about half the price, and they had the grease fittings so I could inject new grease in at intervals. I understand DAP carries these at a fair price. The brake calipers shouldn't be anything but a 12 point socket. My older truck takes a 13mm 6 point so hopefully someone else will verify your bolt size. Good luck, -P |

To correct off center steering why launch into the tie-rod ends? You can uncouple the steering input shaft at the box and rotate tooth by tooth by tooth to get spot on. Just pull the set screws and slide the coupling up on place and it wiil go far enough to clear so rotation can take place. Learned this replacing steering box. I assumed a close orig setup on the tie rod ends and giev that the steering pitman arm is keyed to the output shaft I wouldn't wonder too far with tierod ends or you may end up with steering limited one way and excessive the other. |

You do not want to do it this way as you have wire connections inside the steering column. If you just correct the steering wheel by the splined coupling you may end up with steering lock or worse rip some wires. These wires have only so much rotation travel and if you correct the steering wheel by moving the splined coupling to much you could have a problem. Use the drag link as that is what its for. |
