Okay, I've looked at http://www.wcug.wwu.edu/~jkatka/JATE-ring.html and at http://www.expeditionexchange.com/jate/indexpics.htm for a start. Neither of these Rovers has a brushbar, though. I've got a standard-issue brushbar, and was wanting to add the jate rings and use a bridle-chain between them, ignoring the brushbar. In that case, where should I mount these critters? I mounted them through the only available hole in the chassis, but it was further up on the frame rail than I wanted, and those holes are oversized... there's no way to have a bolt the size of those holes to also fit the rings. They're way too loose. Also, the jates are wider than the chassis, there's no way to get them snug against the chassis.... spacers needed? Hmmm... Do you have to pull out a bolt from the brushbar, and mount it all through the same hole? Or is there some info I'm missing here to figuring out how to properly mount this thing? -L |

Leslie, I'm in the same boat, 2001 DII with a factory A-frame. I haven't gotten under the rig to see if my Jate rings will fit around the brush bar mounts on the frame horns. I want to do the same thing you are describing, but I won't get to it until this weekend. It's my understanding that the Jate ring would mount in one of the holes that the brush guards mount to. Do you have your Jate rigns yet? If so, let me know if it'll fit around the brush guard mounts. If I beat you to it, I'll let you know. |

They fit on the same hole as the brushguard. -P |

That sux, because I wanted to leave the brushbar alone.... it's tight, and I don't like screwing around w/ something that is okay as it is. But.... I do want to get the jates on there, though.... Hmmm........... Craig, I've got 'em, but I can't say at the moment. I'll let you know how things progress.... -L |

Lesie, I think (I studied on it pretty hard, but I never got them b/c my other rover showed back up ) the rings attach to were the bumper attaches. See, what you do (and this is shown in on those web pages) is take out one of the bolts that holds your bumper on, and then stick the JATE ring in there. Since you got the brush bar, the extra little metal in between the ring and chassis should snug it up real good. Tell us how it works out! Hope to see ya at the Uhwarrie Safari!! Max T. |

Hey Leslie, If the rings won't fit, use your Hi-lift (or any other spreading device) and make the JATE ring a little wider. If you only widen it a little, I think it will hurt it. Max T. P.S. Sorry for calling you "Lesie". |

Leslie- I rooted around under my DSII tonight... Here's what I found: The factory brush guard mounts to the frame horn in the same location where the others in the linke you provided mounted their Jate rings. The problem with this is that the brush guard mount is sandwiched on the outside by what appears to be a crossmember. I took a picture, shown here: The picture was taken from near the driver's side tire. At the top of the picture you can see the sway bar. The red arrow shows the factory brush guard mount, and the blue arrow points to the tubular crossmember mounting to the outside of the brush guard. The crossmember precludes the use of a Jate ring in that location due to the shape of the crossmember mount. |
