I knocked a tire off the rim this weekend (GY MTR 235/85s on GCR rim). I was running 20 lbs and the bead broke while gunning it up a hill with obstacles. I am thinking of going with tubes from now on. I have heard the tires run hotter. It should stop the bead break issue. Any feedback about tubes on the highway and airing down? Thanks. |

My neighbour tells me YES they run noticeably warmer with tubes. In sand he runs 12-15psi tubeless (steel wheels), occasionally under 10 if needed, with minimal cases of rolling them off. Always airs up after getting to bitumen though. jp |

why not just run street pressure in your tires? |

y'know, it ain't too bad when i'm too lazy to air down, but every now and then my fake teeth fall out... and then i bump my head against the steering column trying to pick'em all up.... and spill'em back on the floor... peter |

Anonymous, Airing down gives you 20 to 40% more traction in some situations. Save the anonymous for the real stupid questions. You could have used your name for that one. |

i was anon, i was too lazy to enter in my name and email. i know why some people run low tire pressures but i think they are way too many disadvantages. tire falling off, potential to damage rim, less clearance, weakening of sidewalls. beadlocks are not street legal and leak if not mounted correctly and tubes are an added cost and a pain to patch. even if you do air down you still have to bring them back up to street psi when you are done and that entails a compressor or air-tank of sorts. that's an added $300. i'm not saying you have run ultra high pressure like kyle(taking load range E to new heights) but running psi in the low teens is too much of pita for me. |

I ran tubes in a set of 265 85 R16 BFG ATs on 110 steel wheels on my NAS D110. No problems and I didn't notice any extreme heat or wear problems. Ron Ward |
