Hows does one mount and wire those Hellas on their adventure racks with a disco series 1?

How are the wires run up to the rack? How are the lights fastened to the rack?

Any opinions on pencil vs fog vs driving vs cornering etc....I've looked on the tech files but I cant find any info 'bout it...

The LR Adventure racks have 4 front mounts and 1 rear for lights.

I run my wiring up through flexable but bash resistant outdoor wiring tubing.

Definatly avoid Fog lights for the front of the rack. The pattern will wash too much back in on you. Some seem to like running Cornering on the outsides and pencil on the inside.

I have an adventure rack, and also want to put some lights up there. I was wondering what brand/style- hella 4000, etc - would be the best.

Best in my opinion would be to run either Hella 4000's or 1000's using 2 cornering beams on the out side and two euro beams in the middle. Of course this opinion is based on other trucks that I have seen not on my own cuase I don't have a roof rack..

Check out the Roof Rack Lights section on www.discocrazy.org. Check under vehicle mods. It might give you some ideas.

Thanks,

I am planning to add 4 Hella 500's to the roof rack and a rear work lamp. I have wiring and relays, but can't remember from the last time it added lights how it all works. Now I will have 3 new relays to install. Can anyone tell me the proper sequence? i.e., light (+) wire to relay, switch to light? Little confused...

Anyone have pictures of the 500s on the rack or the 4000s on the rack? I noticed that the 500 is considerably smaller than the 4000. I just wanted to see what the difference looked like on teh rack.

the 500' don't compare to the 4000's at all. the 500's are plastic and several inches smaller in diameter.

Lets not forget that the 500 are "Made in Mexico"

There goes Kyle on his Mexican kick again.... lol...

For comparison's sake, look at Kyle's pics w/ the 4000s, and then look here for the 500s...

Hey Kyle, I noticed you have 4 lights, is there a difference betweeen the two on the outside and the 2 on the middle. Are the ones on the outside cornering, and the ones in the middle eurobeam.

Two Euros on the bumper. Two pencils in the center up top and two fog on the outside up top.... I am happy with it . A certain canuck calls it a Xerox machine... :)

Anybody every try Fog's on the roof rack, but inverted so that the cut-off line was below the beam pattern (not above it)?

In theory it seems you could flood a lot of light while the cut-off keeps light off the hood.

Ron,
That painless wiring drawing pretty much shows how to wire things up... Replace the rocker switch with an L/R fog lamp switch that will pop into the open position on the switch bank below the hazard light switch.
L/R part number: AMR4138G
You can get them from a dealer, Atlantic-British sell them for $11.95. I'm sure other L/R part suppliers have them too.
You can get totally trick and wire the switch up to the dash lights.
You can get a 12V/30A relay from Radio Shack for $4.99. Wire, fuse holders and crimp connectors can be had at any good auto parts shop.
I have two Hella 1000's on my adventure rack. One of these days I'll get around to adding two 4000's to the set up. I'd go with either 1000's or 4000's. 4000's if you have the cash.

I had PIAA fogs up there and they sucked. Nothing like suntaning at night without leaving the drivers seat.

Chris you said you used flexable outdoor wiring tubing to run your wires from the rack. Did you run them on the outside or inside of the body.

I am running Hella 4000 cornering beams on the outside, and pencil beams on the inside. I also have two Hella 4000 euro beams on the bumper. It's a good setup, and very bright. The black hood decal helps tremedously with glare from the rack lights.

The outside. When I had only the 4 lights up there the wiring was run under the windsheild cap (?) but when the new lights went up and I added 2 more lights to the back that was going to be too much of a sqeeze.
This I think is the clearest picture of it I could find. If I can, I'll take a pic of a section I have laying around and post it. Got it from Home Depot and seemed to work perfectly for me.

How do you go about getting the non-reflective paint on your hood? Is it something you do yourself?
