I recently had some Tornado alloy wheels painted to match my truck. They look extremely good as I planned...but there's a problem. Apparently paint is not as tough as powder coating(factory wheels are powder coated), so I'm concerned about using them off-road. I have more alloys available which could be powder coated. Do you have any experience powder coating alloys?? Please share before I start yet another project. Randall |

I have mine powder coated also, but mine are 16" LR factory wheels. The trick may be in the "blasting" of the clearcoat before powdercoating. I had mine done with glass in lieu of sand. The sand makes the aluminum pit and the coating doesn't go on as well. [email protected] |

i painted my castors with laquer (spelling?) and then clearcoated and they have been holding up for at least a year or year and a half! They have been offroad quite alot too! Its cheaper to spray paint a couple or three times than to powdercoat! Justin just my 2 cents |

Warning on PPC rims. I have 3 spoke RR rims for my Disco II and the coated the entire rim, inside and out, which is just fine. When the rims were installed, the area that fits around the hub was now smaller (due to the thickness of the paint) and the wheels were unbelievably difficult to remove. Just beware. I have since sanded off the paint in the area around the hub and added antisieze and all is well. |

Hey guys, I Powdercoat everything. You can get a set of 4 wheels done for $150 - $200 USD. Not bad. Any color you want. They sandblast for you. VERY worth it. I also get all my undercarriage stuff Powdered when I have it off. Saves me having to clean stuff, just drop it off and pick it up later. Black is usually cheap for small parts as most shops do Black often and they can batch it in with other larger projects. Its the setup thats expensive. l8r Todd |
