Remove Y pipe and punch the guts out with a long rod. Or have them replaced. If the Disco has less than 80K LR warrantys them, providing no visible dammage done to them.

I just had my cats replaced on Thursday. They replaced everything and now the truck runs better than ever! No charge, everything covered under warranty.

GTX- I'm guessing you are beyond warranty. I cleaned the guts out of my DS cat last year. Be prepared for significantly increased exhaust noise. Sounds very hollow. This year, I had the empty can replace with a universal cat. Very low cost compared to a whole new y-pipe.

Kristian...where did you have your universal cat installed, and how much did you pay? Thanks, Adam

The rattle I have at idle is the cat, not the muffler? Is this really covered under 80k on a 1995 Discovery 1?

Cheers,

Erik

Adam- I had a local muffler shop do it; cost was $160.

Jon- A rattle can come from either. My resonator started rattling a couple years ago. I had it removed permanently.

8 years/80,000 miles is the federal warranty on catalytic converters. If you live in a state with emissions tests, and you fail, you qualify for new cats, for free, including parts and labor.

I live in the UK, And run the disco on LPG[GAS] Think ive heard that you dont have to have cats running on this type of fuel!
question, is it possible to remove the cats and fit a pre-cat system without mods to cat sensors
anyone tried this?
If so better MPG OR performance?
cheers Gary

I put a non cat y pipe on my 88 3.9 V8 gas. I welded in the O2 sensor boses to the orginal locations. It worked fine.

I got the ypipe from RPI
