Hey Peoples.......I have a Disco 1 5 spd and I am thinking about a winch vs the sand bridgs and sand ladders. I have a sweet roof rack and brushgards all around so I was thinking that maybe I wuld get the sand bridges ( $400 a pair ) and a pair of sand ladders ( $165 a pair ) instead of buying an ARB and Winch ( $1600 ) I am having a hard time thinking of situations could get into if by chance I was in the bush and mud that a winch could get me out of but NOT sand ladders and sand bridges and a shovel. I am comfortable off road an love rivers but unless its an event I am mostly Rover camping with my Lady and our two pups. Although I want to hav piece of mind that if I did I am prepared. Tell me what you guys think.......by the way, anyone know of good offroading and Rover camping in or round ASHEVILLE N.C ? Appreciated and regards!

I guess if that would really work a lot more people would have sand ladders and sand bridges instead of winches. But maybe you have struck gold on a new idea, I dunno.

ROTFL....

Go with the winch. You'll get to something that a winch can do that those ladders can't. Not that mats, etc., don't have a 'cool' factor, and they really can be useful, but the winch is almost a must.

Asheville, eh? Tellico.... :)
Go west, JP, go west.... lol.....

Ashville, NC Hell yes go to Tellico, right north of the Ocoee, south of the nantahala. Let me know if you need directions. The best place in the world (imho) is Mt. Pisgah for hiking & camping,( and driving when the gates are left open for the snowy months.. ) It has the highest continous elevation on the eastern seaboard. Its off the Blueridge parkway. Cold Mountain is right there too. Cold Mountain is also a great civil war book by Frasier. East of that is Clingmans's dome the highest point in Smokies park, hike Clingmans and camp on Andrews Bald right off the AT - z best with a lady and pups to keep you warm... Ohh and fuck a bunch of useless sand ladders, buy the winch and bumper = peace of mind..
let me know if you are ever in Bham, AL and want to go for a ride.. Did you catch Larry Keel Experience in Ashville recently? Sorry I missed that show..can you tell i am eating choco-espresso beans ;) wooeeee hold on

Sand bridges are designed to hold the weight of the truck for crossing gaps and stuff, versus ladders which are said to be just used for traction. I think that the ladders are commonly used as bridges.

regardless of function and looks...
i'v seen more winching action and no ladder/bridging action. it'll take you a couple years to flip thru the pic gallery here but don't recall anyone using them ladders/bridges.

so go figure.

Besides, chicks dig winches, whereas sand bridges just don't sex us up the same. Extra points for roof top tents though....
