I have just spotted some rust inside the rubber seal surrounding the alpine windows on the disco.

Has anyone ever experienced this problem.

I guess that I need to get that fixed in the shop.

Any help will be most welcomed...

I had some on the rear door window seal, just washed it down with soap and water, then applied some vasoline to it to make it look like new.

It's not come back since.

Thank you for the info.
I think that mine is a bit more advanced than that.
The rust is actually showing underneath the seal and it looks like it has been going for some time. The steel is damaged and I feel that I need to do something a bit more drastic than just clean it. Looks like the windows need to come off and proper repair will have to be carried out.
I really do not want any water leaks...
I also suspect that there is more hidden underneath as I have seen some suspicious "bumps" in the rubber around those windows.

How easy is it to replace the rubber trim around the outside of the alpine and rear side windows?

Ron,

Replacing the rear rubber is not that hard. I got lazy and took it into a shop he charged me 10 per window (I helped Him).

You need to spray down the window seal with some soapy water this will make it a bit slippery.
Then place the new seal around the glass, No silicone is used on them it is a dry seal system.
Place a rope in the outer channel, leave it long and have the ends meet at the bottom.
Place the window up against the frame have someone help at this point.
Go inside and slowly pull the rope starting from the bottom this will pull the seal over the body lip.
While pulling the rope the person on the outside needs to keep pressure on the window both in the center and where you
Are pulling, Take it slow and easy.
There will be some shifting and playing with the seal on the inside to get it over the trim.

If you need seals I can get you them

Luc, you have a 6 year, unlimited mileage corrosion perforation warranty. Are you within that warranty period? Just a thought.

Alyssa,

Thank you for the thought.

I am based in the UK and my disco is a 94/95 model, so that makes me out of warranty.
I understand that the UK market only had a 3 years warranty at the time anyway.

Beside it has not perforated as yet and will not for a while. I just think that this is something I need to anticipate while the damage is not too far advanced.

Anyway, I have spoken to my friendly LR mechanic who says that the problem is due to the fact that the windows are made in Brazil with tolerances too wide for adequate fit.
The solution is, so he says, to redo the windows seat and refit the lot with sylicone inside the rubber to fill the gap and stop water sitting inside the seal.

I guess it is all down to how badly rusted it already is inside that rubber.

Luc.
