Any of you out there with Disco IIs, I've got a question for you...

What did your dealer say about a suspension lift and your warranty? Did installing aftermarket spring and shocks void any part of your warranty?

I am waiting to hear from my dealer on the issue, but I wanted to hear the experiences you all had when you lifted your Disco IIs.

Craig, it seems to be highly dealership dependent on the warranty issue. In the town i lived in before my move out west, the dealer had no probs honoring the warranty, none here as well but even if you lift it, and they want to be dicks about the warranty it would only void certain aspects related directly to lift, not void all of it.

The only thing I was told was if I had any diff problems it may be an issue since my tires are 285's. But my service manager is very level headed and has enough common sense to know what would be affected by a lift and what wouldn't.

My dealer said that they won't cover after market parts, but would honor the warranty for any land rover part. Also, they said that if they installed it, I would have less of a problem with warranty issues. I put it it in, they looked at and didn't have a problem...we'll see

I was informed by two different centres in North Carolina (Wlmington / Cary) that the OME kit and tires did not Void the entire warranty. They did say I was SOL if I tried to warranty anything suspension related. I really believe that if you find a center where the employees actually drive the vehicles they sell off the pavement, you will be treated fairly.

I had the dealer (scottsdale az) do the OME lift and the CDL installation on my DII to avoid this issue. While it cost more obviously I thought the insurance that I wouldn't have warranty issues later was worth the extra $ (plus my mechanical ineptness was an important factor).Good luck

No prob with LR Chattanooga. I had them do the install and they said that the warranty would be no problem (within reason). Of course the Service Manager is a rover fanatic...

Yeah, it appears to be mostly dependent upon your particular dealership. You need to have a 'heart to heart' talk with your service manager (This would be important any time there is a change in personell, as well). Some of them are real jackasses, and some are very reasonable. LRNA maintains that any time you do a lift, you're messing with the drivetrain ... That being said, talk to your dealer - many of them are fairly reasonable. I wouldn't flaunt an aftermarket center diff locking mechanism in their face though. Ford seems to have issued a few edicts here ...

Good luck,
Kim

My dealer (Peabody, MA), has no problem with the OME lift on my DII. They just won't cover the parts for the actual lift...

For some reason the LR dealers in Midwest have something stuck up the $^#. Need to move out of here.

I've had my rig to LR Richmond at least two times for warranty work (not suspension related) and they never mentioned a thing about my wheels or lift. I think the service mgr is Mike, he seems pretty cool about everything that's going on. Apr 15 I'm going in for the recall work and my CDL shifter is new...should be interesting.

I lifted my 97 Disco while it was still under warranty, and my dealer (LR Woodbridge in NJ) had no problems with that. The Disco was even leased at the time. Of course I would not expect them to cover the new suspension components or any related components that may go because of the lift such as ujoints etc. They did other warranty work without questioning it, though. LR Woodbridge is a great dealership, I got my wife's Freelander from them as well.
