Hi everyone, I know a lot of you run both of these tire sizes and I am looking for some feedback. I am willing to "upgrade" the tires on my DI and I really wonder which size to choose : 235/85R16 or 265/75R16. I have at the moment 245/75R16 and 215/85R16, offroading and stuffing with no rubbing. As you can see below, there is some room at the back of the wheelarch, so I think the 235 should fit with no problem. Oh and the rig has an around 2 inch lift : OME + half inch spacers My wonders are for the 265... Indeed, I will be using the stock rims (so no change in the backspacing), and as these tires are a full inch wider than the 235, I wanted to know if there is some rubbing issues on the places shown by colored arrows : 1. Door (green) 2. Top of the Wheelarch (red) 3. On the inside of the wheelwell, just above the upper spring seat (yellow) 4. Other places welcome :-)
No one in my country seem to have fitted this size on a disco... but there are not so many off-roading discos here :-) What about the front (ARB bar)? turning radius difference between 235 and 265 ? Finally, appart from rubbing issues, from the experience you guys have on this board, is there more axle breakage caused by going up to 235 and/or 265 ? Will 265 really increase the off camber stability upon the 235 ? Or what is the pros and cons on going 265 over 235 ? Thank you for your input. Best regards. Erik Disco I Tdi300 New Caledonia |

Erik, I use 265/75/16 with steel wheels. (the stock spare type) HD OME springs and shock and I had rubbing on your green arrow and at the rear of the quarter pannel. I used Kyle's method for the rear quarter but I had to bend the lip of the front quarter pannel inward. I sliced the heck out of my tyres before I could figue out what was cutting them. Hi Brian, thanks for the info. I really thought the green arrow was the least probable place for rubbing. Damned :-) Thanks again. Erik. |

"I used Kyle's method for the rear quarter but I had to bend the lip of the front quarter pannel inward." Brian, Are you referring to the front of the rear quarter panel or the actual "front" quarter panel where you did the bending. I am getting ready to buy the same tires and I was curious what part of the panel you had to bend? If it was the front quarter panel, was it the back edge below the mirror or more towards the front of the panel (closer to the front bumper)? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me, Greg |
