I'm getting some Hella 4000's and look forward to putting them on the truck. I have noticed on the dash of the truck that beside the fog light button and cruise control button there is a third space for a button that is just covered solidly. Is there any way to put a button in that spot for the Hellas or if not, at least run them in line with the Fog Lamps? thanks, Brad |

Brad - on a D1 - holder for the cruise control and factory fogs just pulls right out. just gently tug it - yup there is typically a spare space for an additional switch. |

When I installed the SafariGard front end years ago, the 'fog lamp' circuitry was used for the three new Hellas. (The existing circuit only energizes remote realys....) However, the original circuit only comes on with the low beams, as true fog lamps should. I want to swap things over so that the Hellas will dip with the main beams, or be turned off altogether by the existing fog light switch. I've looked through the electrical troubleshooting manual and page upon page of circuit diagragms, relays and mysterious black boxes and traced various circuits until I was so confused my hair hurt. Supposedly, the fog lamp circuit can be easily re-arranged depending upon the regulations of whatever country you are in and the desires of the driver. Apparently, the fog lights can be set up to come on with the side lamps, the low beams or the high beams. So, how is the easiest way to accomplish this task? I'm hoping for something as simple as "pull pin three; jumper to lead 6" but things are never that easy.... Cheers |

Brad, I did just what you are thinking of a few weeks back. The L/R fog lamp switch part number is: AMR4138G. I ordered one from Atlantic-British for $11.95. I'm sure you can get one from most L/R parts suppliers or from a dealer. The wiring is a little tricky, but you can hook the switch up so it has dash light illumination. I used a fuse tap connector from the cigarette lighter circuit at the fuse box to power the relay control loop, grounding to the vehicle body. Tap the dash light power off the adjacent fog lamp switch (pin 2). One other note, the mating connector for the back side of the switch might be hard to come by. The space behind the switch is very tight. I fed the wiring through the tight slot behind the switch and carefully soldered each wire to the appropreate contact. Each wire / solder joint was jacketed with heat shrink tubing for insulation and stress relief. I did a wiring diagram of the whole project, but haven't had time to post it. Dave |

Dave; you are correct - the mating connector is impossible to find - I went to NAPA autoparts and had the counter guy open up a few packages of connector until we foudn one that fit OK. |

Dave; what pin did you use to illuminate the switch? |

Chris- AMR4138G switch contacts: Pin 1: +B (high side power to be switched for relay control) Pin 2: Dash back light positive supply. Tap from pin 2 on the adjacent fog lamp switch. Pin 3: No Connection - leave floating Pin 4: switched +B ouput to control relay, when engaged, it also powers the little green "on" lamp. Pin 5: Comon - ground to vehichle body. I'll be out of email contact next week, but I'll do a write up with a complete wiring diagram soon. Dave |

hey dave, if you could post that wiring diagram it'd be great, or just send it to me. Also, I've heard of many people that have put in a switch their for their hellas that is the same size as the factory switch but is made by another company. I don't want to have two identical fog switches next to each other, and i want whatever switch i put in to be the push in type and have a little light in it that indicates when they are on. Does anyone know where I can get these buttons/switches? Brad |

does anyone know where these switches can be found and which ones are good? Is the best method just to use the factory switch for fog lights and have two identical switches right there? |
