My RR started diving to the left after off-roading a couple of weeks ago. I figured out that the retaining pins for the front right brake pads were mangled and the pad got loose and lodged itself down against where the rotor attaches to the hub and basically cut the rotor. THe stresses of off-road driving finally broke where weak part where the pad had been "cutting" the rotor. So, I replaced the rotor and retaining pins and everything was great until tonight. I was on my way back from my local trail when it happened again; I almost went straight into a tree when my front right braked refuse to work.---The same thing has happened again. Why is my pad getting loose and mangling my retaining pins and cutting my rotor. I just dont get it. My caliper pistons seem to be working fine. after I took everything apart, they seem to be extending a more than sufficient amount to keep the pad in there. Whats going on!!! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks,

Try swapping in a new/used caliper or rebuilding the seals in the pistons. Maybe buy a good used one from www.rovercannibal.com or call www.roverclubhouse.com fora used one if you dont have time/money to investigate by cracking open the caliper to re-build. Old brake fluid retains moisture ( hygroscopic? possible word of the day..;) and can cause rust inside the caliper itself
"My caliper pistons seem to be working fine" this is the variable I think needs to be explored. I wonder if the brake hose itself could be clogged?? Never heard of it before but what do I know....maybe now is a good time to go to stainless brake lines for you? plz keep us posted!
