Greetings, My sister bought a new Discovery with the 18" rims. I believe the tires are 255/55/R18 or 255/50/R18. Regardless - I can't find a true AT or MT tire for them. She was thinking she might want an inexpensive 16" tire/wheel combination to take to Colorado each summer. The goal would be to hit the same diameter as the 18's. I'm looking for some recomendations for a relatively inexpensive 16" rim to put some AT's on. My original thought was to put some 16x8 rockcrawlers (steel) on there, but I don't know what backspacing is necessary. Any thoughts? Thanks, Greg |

It it my understanding that the ride hight of the stock 18" rims and tires is the same as the stock 16" rims and tires Perhaps you can find 5 Land Rover steel rims (16x8) and mount the 255/65HR16 tures on those for hitting the trails. Of course, if she is going to lift the vehicle, then the options for keeping the ride height of the tire/wheel combination change. |

Man, Tell her to ditch those crappy 18" wheels and drag slicks. Anybody that has offroad intentions wouldn't be wise to ride on those ghetto wraps... No offense meant, Brian |

Methinks you should have told her to get a 4Runner, too, hehe... (it's Andrew from TrailTalk, Greg!) Yes, the 16" in stock size is almost exactly the same height and width as the 18" rims. I know someone who has four brand new Disco II SD 16" rims he wants to sell cheaply. He put a different set of 16" alloys on his Disco II. Email me if you want them and I'll give you his email address. He lives here, too, so shipping wouldn't be an issue. Andrew [email protected] |

Andrew - Do these people know you don't have a Rover? Thanks for the info - I'll send you an e-mail. I saw on Rovertyme a discovery with what looked like painted modular steel wheels (the ones with the circles all the way around) - Looked like a normal 15x8 offset. Anyone done anything like this? Thanks, Greg |

If you want minimalist steel wheels, call up Tirerack. I know they have some cheap, black steel wheels that fit the Disco 2s. chu |

greg- get steel or alloys off the boards in 16" and some 245-75-16 mt or at- and you'll be all set. you oad will increase by 0.5" butyou'll be running the same 'shoes' as the trek discos. for the us into of the d2 they did use the 255-55-18 on the trails in colorado. for the european 'hannibal' intro they used 255-70-16 at.... so again .5" increase best of luck and congrats to your sister steveII |
