Okay,

Here is an interesting question. On the street, be it in the rain, or snow, or other, what is everyone's feeling on the performance difference between running a gear style limited slip in the center differential (Quaife) verses Tru Tracs in the front and Rear Differentials? Off road it obviously is a non-issue, as the center diff would be locked, and tru tracs front and back would be better, but this is an on-road scenario. Thoughts? Opinions?

I've driven a j##P GC with a much more powerful V8, and a viscose coupling center differential, and it is awesome in the rain, much better than my disco unfortunately, that tends to spin the inside front wheel when powering through turns, or pulling out into traffic making a turn....

Never heard of such for a Land Rover except the transfer box on the Range Rover. I have one of those and I like it very much. It doesn't cause any strange handling when cornering or any other time.

Perrone,

Quaife makes a gear drive limited slip for LT230T transfer cases (it is sitill lockable as well). The principle is the same as a tru trac, but for a center differntial. Very nice, but pretty expensive. I was looking at them myself...

Anonymous,

i have limited slip center diff in the big jeep and in a rangie, and they don't mess the driving in slippery conditions.

thanks for the tip about Quaife center diff, that's worth looking into. The disco drives me nuts in ~a foot-deep snow, plows straight with CDL locked or gets stuck with CDL open.

Where do you find these quaife centers? I've seen the quaife axle units, but never the transfer box. Is there a web page somewhere?

Perrone,

Bill Davis at Great Basin Rovers can supply Quaife differentials. They are expensive though. The center diff is around $1,100 if I recall correctly.

Quaife's website is:

www.Quaife.co.uk

Quaife America's Site is:

www.Quaifeamerica.com

They both show the LT230 transfer case center diff in the application table.

wow thats really intresting?

i ran a quaife in my BMW autocrosser

awsome diffs !

super smart.

and they are really strong...might be a nice way to beef the center diff as well

I did not see the place where it said it retained the fully locked option?

Hey Guys,

I've spoken to both Quaife, and Bill Davis. They both relayed to me that the Quaife Center Differntial was still lockable via the shift lever...

Anyone have comments about the Center Quaife verses center open and front+rear tru tracs for street duty?
