Is there a cure for the following problem? So for the last year whenever I drive on a steep grade my disco overheats, even on short little trips. I turn of the AC and turn on the heat and it makes a difference but it has become really annoying. Would flushing the radiator help this? What would you suggest?

There are a number or reasons your truck might be overheating.

1. Old and ineffective coolant
2. Failing thermostat
3. Radiator blockage
4. Auxillary fans are not working
5. Viscous fan is faulty
6. Engine is low on oil or coolant
7. Fuel problem causing engine to re-ignite.
8. Fuel problem causing engine to run lean

I'd start with the basics here like a coolant flush and change, and checking the operations of the fans. If that didn't work, I'd have the radiator tested. And you may want to actually verify the thing is actually getting hot. Is it boiling over or is the guage just indicating its running hot. The gauge is notorious for being inaccurate.

i checked my aux fans the other day and the passenger side one did not turn on. Wonder if this may be causing my intermittent overheating? What the sequence to have both on? how do i test them?
