while on my way home from san diego this weekend the lights went out on me...when i went to turn the lights on i felt the switch move in a weird way..like no clicking..then the lights did not work..the brights would work only if i held it in position..it would not click into the bright setting...long story short checked all the fuses and they are fine..connections are fine..i figured out that if i hold the switch in the bright position for 5 to 15 seconds the lights will then work..brights and driving lights..is it a bad switch? any ideas

Sounds like part of the switch snapped.... I've had that happen before, on a Cheep.... haven't torn into the Disco column before...

Good luck...

it is a cake walk...get ahold of nathan at discount rovers for the part he has the best price. there are a few screws under the steering column to loosen, then you just undo the switch and plug the new one end. it took about 15 mminutes for the whole job. have a good time!

Why not open it to see what's bad before ordering a new one? Maybe you can do smth about it.
I had to solder mine, and opening/checking/restoring was easy, but that's an older one (200series).
