hey fellas (and ladies), i've recently noticed oil on top of the engine (below the valve cover gasket, and towards the centre (in the dish shaped or u-shaped top part of the block)). I've had the dealer look at this before (when still under warranty) but they dismissed it as oil from previous work, so they just mopped it up. Now the oil is back and I'm off warranty, so needless to say I'm pissed off. Anyways, without rambling too much, has anyone seen this before? p.s 4.0 V8 |

More than likely some seal or gasket and the engine is seeping a bit of oil.. If you have the receipt where you took it in,,,in all fairness they are required to fix it do to the complaint. I would also consider getting one of the extended warranty option plans. I know I got one from Will at autowarranty.biz. His email is [email protected] and he specializes is Land Rovers, BMW's other euros. I got the bumper to bumper to 100k or 2008 for my Disco for around 2700.00. and it covers SEALS AND GASKETS. |

I would guess that the cover-to-breather hoses are clogged, causing a buildup of pressure under the cover, thus focing the leak..... maybe not, but quite possible.... something easy to check.... FWIW... -L |

Check breathers - small can on top of one rocker cover, with hose going across front to throttle area- screw off, wash in petrol or thinners. Check the breather hoses for clear, and restrictor in plastic T piece - careful not to break it though. Small air inlet at rear of one rocker cover, with hose to air cleaner box. Also check tightness of the 4 screws holding the rocker boxes down - 5/16, 8mm 12 point bolt heads - difficult to get at inner ones. Also, carefully check the front and rear centre bolts holding down the valley cover ends - these are just screwed into the alloy block, so dont lean on them much, but they can loosen with gasket compression.
