ok, guys, here is the deal: when I bought my 1995 V-8 EFI Disco last year, I made a deal with myself: I knew the only way I could afford it was if I did the maintenance myself. It has been a non-issue up to now because it had the 60K service just before purchase and has been in the shop under warranty enough since purchase that I have not even had to change the oil yet. That is over, since my warranty runs out in one month. I have made myself a maitenance shedule and I want some of you more experienced guys to take a look and give me some critique/comments. Please bear in mind that I do a good bit of off-roading (approx. twice a month) which typically includes some mud and/or wading and lots of dust. Also, I live in coastal NC, so cold is not an issue. current mileage 71K, next scheduled maint. 72K, which includes all of below to get started on the right foot: EVERY 3K: - change oil and filter - check all fluid levels and color including brake, coolant, power steering, transmission, battery, transfercase, diffs and swivel pins -clean and service battery -inspect heating/cooling hoses, serpentine belt, brake lines, fuel lines, exhaust, steering, suspension, brakes, engine mounts, transmission mounts, and transmission, transfercase and diff breather hoses -lube driveshaft & u-joint zerks Every 12K, all of the above and: -inspect ignition system, radiator, A/C, and crankcase breather hoses -check and adjust idle -clean PCV valve & hoses & throttle butterfly -renew air filter Every 24K, all of the above and: -inspect -check and adjust timing -renew spark plugs, serpentine belt, brake fluid, coolant, transfercase oil, diff oil, swivel pin oil, fuel filter -DEALER SERVICE: replace/renew transmission fluid and filter. Thats it - and thanks for any help. |

Also: what brand/type fluids do you guys recommend for: -engine oil - I am thinking dino b/c of less probability of leakage and frequency of changes (also because it has been run on dino since new) -brake fluid -coolant -power steering/transmission -transfercase/diff/swivel pin -grease Thanks again, Marc |

Thanks, Leslie - I already checked it out - that is where I got some of my ideas. I am more concerned about the frequency of each job and extent of each service, bearing in mind my type of driving - not one service in particular. That is one hell of a write-up though. |

Your serp belt should be good for more than 24k say 48k Personally I like to do the coolant more frequently castrol gt lma brake fluid coolant green stuff make sure it says no ... no ... etc. ie get the good stuff and mix it with distilled water Use the texaco havoline atf or whatever it is in the PS and tranny no synthetic BAD right Bill B I use cheap dino 85-90wt in everything but it gets changed a lot. I am going to try something else in the t-case soon. Ron |
