I've owned a 95 V8 pertrol Discovery for just under a year. It's done 165 000km (and is overdue for it's 160 000km service). I was planning to have it done at a Land Rover dealership but they quoted a base price of $1300 (Australian), which I thought was totally ridiculous (as they couldn't convince me that the complexity of the service warranted it). I'd prefer to go to a local reputable workshop, which is more likely to offer better value for money. Is this wise (ie. is my vehicle too complex for a non-specialist) and how do I get my hands on a servicing schedule for a 1995 Discovery (which tells me what I need done periodically)? |

Adam Rovers are not to hard to work on. servicing you could do yourself if you have the tools and time. I assume you don't have a owners manual. You say you had it under a year. You may want to consider changing all of your fluids and filters. unless you know they were done as scheduled before you bought it. Use the keyword search on the the left of this page and /or 2001 Archives on the same side @ the bottom Lots of information in there that could help you in the future. Good Luck |

Hi I would do my own service. I use to be the same . take it to a dealer, but after I find that they didnt even clean some of the filers etc.. which makes me think they just do the usual things and not all the listed things. If you want it done right, do it yourself and it will be right. I have been doing my own service for 2 years now. I only have a Porters manual, but its ok. I am no mechanic, but after the first couple of times, you will get use to it. Just see how easy it is to do the Whel bearings ,brake pads etc..and the dealer charge you couple of hundred dollars for it. regards Bill |
