James, if the '98 is the same as my '96, you will find the ecu on the passenger side fender, right next to the window washer reservoir. You can pry off the plastic cover and if the ecu is wet a hair dryer can help speed up the process. Do you have any power at all? Check the battery terminals too. If you do a keyword search here on the site, you'll likely find some ideas. |

My 96 SE7 has done that same thing twice. Just died in the car wash and had to be pushed out of the way, haha. The first time it started by the time we got the hood up and were checking to see if anything got wet. The second time it had to sit for an entire afternoon to dry off. Both times there were no other problems, nor could we ever find what got wet. |

Thanks, I said ecm du ecu, The service people call the next day to let me know it was running fine!! I did have power but the engine would turn over but not run. I did some checking to see if there was a water sensor some were on the truck that would kill the engine. I have a problem if this thing is going to die every time it gets wet. |

"I did have power but the engine would turn over but not run" James, would it almost start and run on a few cylinders? What condition are your ignition leads in? Older poor fitting leads might allow some water entry and prevent a spark. I hope others have some suggestions here. |

sounds like water did get into the ecm. If this is the case, there is a fix so that it won't happen again. basicly you just put a weather seal along the inner fender about a foot long our so. or you can do what I did to mine and install full length strips on both sides. DiscoII all have these strips. It really help to keep the engine compartment dry in those deep water crossings. Hope this helps. David |
