1996 discovery R-380 transmission. I can't say for sure that the shutter or shaking is definitely coming from the tranny, but very occasionaly on just the right hill (long gradual grade)the gear selector shakes violently and can be felt throughout the car. Down shifting does not help. I assume this is coming from the tranny, but maybe another area of the driveline is the cause. Any ideas? Steering wheel does not shake or shimmy at all. Wheels are balanced, no snow or mud in them. 65k mi. warm regards, keith zack |

Don't think it is your tranny. Probably engine related. Drain the tranny fluid and see if you have any chucks of metal on the drain plug. Some swarf is ok and normal but chunks mean something went boom. Ron |

sounds like your release bearing is going and this is more of a clutch problem. |

I also had this in my 92 3.5l 5 speed a couple of years back. Tried everything - fule press regulator, thottle pos sensor, fuel pump, wheel balance, removed one prop shaft at a time, plugs, leads, cap, rotor etc etc. Clutch was 25k km old, main box and tfer rebuilt, UJs good, swivels rebuilt. Couldnt solve it. Got slight changes in behaviour, when it would happen, but never got rid of it, just sold the truck. I still think it was engine problem, but....?? Let us know if/when you solve it PLEASE! jp |
