Anyone have a wiring diagram for the wires going to the sub in the back door. I am installing a powered sub and want to tap in at the rear door instead of in the dash.

For what its worth,
I would NOT tap in out back. YOu can try it but using a quality deck with a true sub out and nice interconnects will yield better sound. Also, tapping into the factory wiring with an aftermarket amp makes ground loops a bear. YOu'll likely have lots of Alt whine.
IMHO at least.

David - any chance you can pop one of those babies my way?

At the moment I'm running a Sony MDX-7900 head unit in my 98 Disco, and everything else music wise is stock. And yes, the sub has stopped working once I swapped out the LR head unit.

As I only do about 15k miles per year, I'm not after a symphony in my wagon or anything.
If I swap out the speakers, and wire the sub up to a pre-out on my head unit (leaving wiring etc. as stock), will it make enough of a difference to warrant spending about £200 on doing it?

My Disco is a diesel, so there is no way of getting it to sound like a limo, so I don't want to spend loads on the music system, when it could/should be spend on springs and lights 'n' things.

Any help / advice appreciated.

Horness,

What I did initially on my rig is use the pre-outs on my head unit to drive the factory amp directly, just like the factory head unit. It worked great as this kept the speakers and subs working like the factory setup. The only problem that I encountered was some alternator noise, and that could have been cured by using a pair of ground isolators. I didn't bother since it was just short term until I installed my own amp and sub. I'll send you an e-mail with the factory diagrams that I have as well as a diagram of the VW harness mods that I used. Let me know if you need more info.
