I have a 92RR which is going to have 4.11 gears and trutrac diffs installed. So I also am upgrading to 24 spline 1.25 axle shafts at the same time. In the rear we will put in GRB HD axles. This will only require 24 spline trutrac and drive members to install. In the front we will be installing 1.25" 24 spline axles and CV joints from a LWB RR. Axles are part#s RTC6754 and RTC6755. The CV joints are part# STC3051. I will let you know if there are any unexpected problems. Randall |

Why have you selected Trutrac over other detroit models, or arb etc. What is your opinion of the benefits of the truetrac over others? Are you getting HD flanges as well or taking the 24 spline factory flanges off the LWB or a Disco? Just Curious! Hope to see you at the Uwharrie Safari. JB |

I just did the rear conversion to 24. It was dead simple. Took 40 minutes. I've not changed the front yet, but you really only need the outer axles and a new diff. Good luck on the dual truetrac. I went for the locker in the back since I was going 24 spline anyway. I can't wait to upgrade to the TT front. And I'm sorry I won't be at uwharrie this year. I wanted to meet some of you guys. JB, I wasn't aware that the other 24 spline trucks used flanges... the 24 spline axles (rear) that I have don't use a flange. Are the fronts different? -P |

JB...are you the guy with black RR? I chose the trutrac because of the seamless "locking" and unlocking. This should eliminate noises, binding, drivetrain stresses etc. The operation should be as effortless as the viscous center diff. For my suspension setup and driving style I don't need to get fully locked up, just maintain the momentum and act cool. I have GBR HD flanges for the rear, stock flanges for the front. Someday I may get some extreme duty parts for the front also(rear needs to be stronger than the front). The doner truck is Ryan's LWB, which is being parted out. Randall Also the ARB is a more expensive setup, and as everyone who doesn't have the ARB says "too many things to go wrong". |

Randall, I battled the same decision as you on the detroit vs. truetrac thing. In the end I chose the locker. I am very pleased to say it was the correct choice. I'm pretty sensitive about my handling of the truck, and I am here to tell you the Detroit is terrific. Horror stories seem to be greatly exaggerated. I drove through a rainstorm last night in the mud (dirt road) and played in 6" of mud. Only my rear is locked and the thing drive through that muck like I was on concrete. On the road I noticed the slightest amount of understeer and that is all. It's there all the time so you get used to it. It's not slippery, its not noisy, its awesome. In a weeks time the thing has made noise exactly once and I was backing out of my driveway onto the street. Other than that, dead silence. You know the benefit of the locker over the TT so I'm not going there, but if you are avoiding the locker in the back because of the stories, put it out of your mind. Our viscous case seems to soak up some of the issues that Defenders and Discos seem to have. I couldn't be happier. Until I get the truretrac up front! -P |

Perrone Will find out for sure in a week exactly what is needed for the front axle swap. The front trutrac is supposed to make driving at high speed easier on a lifted Rover...one of my excuses for doing this. Also the GBR shafts have seperate drive flanges, since you inquired. I would like to meet you as well. Are you as wrong in person as you are on the web? Last year our club went all the way to Colorado, maybe Florida next year?? You wouldn't cause me to drown my RR would you??? Randall |

Perrone Thanks for your comments on actually driving with the detroit for the last week. Example: viscous center diff "soaks up some of the issues". I have the rest of my life to upgrade these items even more, but this will have to do for a few years. Randall |

Randall, Guilty as charged. Glad to hear Ryan's 93LWB lives on in bits and pieces. I hope to get that old bull bar from it JB |

Randall, Do you have ABS or is your 92 a base model (swb w/o ABS) . I just did my rear with JMD locker and was easier than changing oil . The front I am leaving open for now but using the 24 spilne XD GBR CV's(ABS) and axles , and have run into some issues . Bill at GBR has been very helpful with advice and swapping parts . But just be aware that there are some minor differences and there are different Drive Flanges , before you go and do something dumb like cut your stub axle spindle , doh . If you already have ABS it should be a real easy swap . ED |

Some range rovers have 2 piece 24 spline axles so you can get the flange from them or just order it from dealer or whoever. Non-abs is different axles front and rear. Ron |

Ed and Ron I am one of the lucky few owners of a 92RR that does not have ABS. So ABS should not be an issue. Also this setup will be GRB HD in the rear, LWB doner parts for the front, so should be no real problem. This is being handled by the Rover Clubhouse, so we have piles of parts to choose between. One aspect of this conversion is for me to learn how to disassemble and trouble shoot these parts of the truck. Randall |

The LWB parts MAY not fit properly. I am not sure what is in the front of a 92 non ABS truck but if it is similar to the late 88/89 32 spline non abs set up the inners are not interchangeable. I am not sure if you can swap the entire assembly but I think not if you have the same wet hub as on earlier non ABS range rovers as the hub makes it a different total length. Something as rare as a 92 non ABS will be interesting to see what you have and what will fit. It very well could have ABS style cvs in which case you can save your stockers for spares and it will all swap, you never know until you open them up. Ron PS say hi to the fradenbergs (man I can't spell) for alyssa and I. |

Randall, My 92 also doesn't have ABS ,that's where you may have a problem . You are going to use ABS CV's and axles from the LWB and there are some differences , do you have the manual ? It will show the minor differences between non and abs trucks . Good Luck, Ed |

also just because it goes in does not mean it fits properly. Make sure that you have full spline engagement at the very least. Ron |
