hey guys -

My first shot at regular maintenance, and I have seen different things re: spark plugs. Is the Champion number RN11YC or RN11YCC or RN11YC4? Does it matter?

Any other (better) suggestions?

Is changing every 24K about right?

Thanks in advance,
Marc

RN11YCC is the genuine, original plug. It is a European plug, not available in the US, except through LR dealers or RN or mailorder or etc. etc.

RN11YC4 is the same size plug, and as close to the original as you can get. It is also listed as a 322.

The difference is: The CC is a double-copper core, meaning that both the center electrode and the side one both have a copper core. The C4 only has a copper core in the center electrode.

Champion has a plug, the 3322, which is a Platinum Power plug. It has the double copper core, with platinum around it.

If you look at a Bosch platinum plug, you'll notice just how tiny the center electrode is, compared to a normal spark plug. Look at the Champion plug, and while the platinum electrode is smaller than a normal sparkplug, it is much larger than the Bosch platinum plug's center electrode.

The Champion Platinum Power was only $1.50 apiece, too.... it's what I have in mine.

FWIW...

I got a set of Champion "Copper Plus" #404 RN12YC in an "Emergency Breakdown Kit" from Atlantic British that they claimed were "the same" as the stock plugs. Would these be the same, hotter or colder temperature range as the stock RN11YCC?

This is for a '95 Disco fitted with an RPi 4.6.

Thanks,

Norm

I have used Bosch Super4 spark plugs in mine, 1991 3.5L V8i, these have now been in for over 12 months and are still running good.
They do cost about 2.5 times that of conventional plugs.
Difference I found is slightly better performance and also slightly increased fuel economy.
They are available for later Disco's as well.

Gee, I use the Autolite # 65 spark plug in my Rover and change them every 12,000 (fourth oil change) miles.

Have had no problems and they are dirt cheap! When you drive as much as I do, and adhere to a maintenance schedule, you become very CB!

Let's not have any comments about my being cheap Perrone! I'll get a locker someday, and shocks and bushings too!

Peace,

I have Bosch platinums as well, and I love them. Why put the crappy factory ones in there when you can get a better product....

Just to add to my earlier message re Bosch Super4's, since I put them in, I have covered 25,000 miles!, so they are worth the extra cost!!

I have used NGK BPR5EY plugs in my '95 and was very happy with them.
