Recently, the cat on my disco 2 started to rattle with 32000 on vehicle. Dealer found quarter inch ding in casing and would not warranty it. I've been in touch with exec. headquarters who basically said tough luck with out even sending someone to see the truck. Would like to avoid a 1500 dollar repair. Is land Rover shirking responsibility? I see lots of posts about bad cats.any suggestions?

If they are claiming you damaged the cat by doing something so incredibly stupid as driving one of their vehicles somewhere other than to soccer games and to the mall, you may well be out of luck.

If the rattle is bad enough, you may wish to consider replacement with an aftermarket. Many have done this, with no ill effects.

Think of it this way, at least all it does is rattle, it could be leaking oil too:-)

peace,
Paul

Take a look at the warranty section under the resources section. There is info there on the EPA mandated warranty.

The dealer has the option to deny claims based on certain criteria, one of them is abuse by off-road driving. But if the cats themselves are not dented etc. you should have no problem, but even if they are, I would give it a try, it won't cost you anything. I had mine replaced by my local dealer at no charge and it is very obvious that my truck has been off-road.

I guess inorder to pursue my claim I need to contact someone from the epa - just not sure how to do that.

WWW.EPA.GOV Would be a good place to start, although, I'm not sure that I would necessarily expect to receive any more assistance than you did from the dealer/manufacturer's rep.

In fact, I seriously doubt anyone at EPA would be of much help.

Perhaps calling around to other dealers might be of some value.

I really don't think you'll get anywhere with the EPA.

There are several of us on the 'board who work in the environmental field and I suspect they would share my sentiments.

Peace,
Paul
