I'm getting ready to install a couple of O2 sensors in my 95 Disco and I have 2 questions: 1. Can I spray some penetrant around the old one prior to removal. I don't want to risk damaging it should it be stuck (kind of a preventative thing). I don't want the new one to be "poisoned" by residue from the penetrant. 2. What's the Nut size on an O2 sen. Seems kind of a waste to buy a new sensor socket for a onesie kind of thing. I'll buy one from anybody who wants to get rid of one.... |

Paul, Go to Autozone and use one of thier loaner O2 sockets. They are super deep and are slotted for the pigtail. Cost: free. They will give you a kit that has the right size socket in it. You are right that it will be hard to get out of a cold exhaust. Do not use any oil. Simply start the engine and let it warm up for two to five minutes. Not too hot though. Then get under and get the old one out. If the new sensor is not pre-treated with anti-seize make sure to put some one or you will NEVER get that one out. It probably will be coated though. Good Luck, Curtis |

The sensors are 17mm, BTW.... I had no problems removing mine cold. I used every extension I had an came down from the top. The really tough part is the connectors, as they were positioned by someone with a very mean streak (at least on a '96, and these have four of the bloody buggers.) Make sure the anti-seize doesn't get on the sensor itself. Cheers |

I should have said "use anti-seize tape on the threads". Most will come with it painted on though. SG is right though. Make sure nothing obstructs the sensor itself. |

SG, How did you get to the connectors up top. I have a '96 also and I can't reach the connectors up above the Tranny right at the back of the engine bay!! Any tips would be great. Thanks |
