The same rumble will also gently shake the rover. My dealer (utter snobs) kindly cleaned carbon buildup on throttle plate and housing without asking and then charged me! yay! So anyway it didn't do anything and they said it will need a new stepper motor. Which they charge $400+service for. Screw that! I found the part for $150 in Rover North, could a normal mechanic fix it??? And of course its not covered (1996 disco)4.0 |

Dude, you can replace the s.m. yourself with no special tools in about 15 minutes. its on the pass side of the engine on the intake. |

you can not only replace it yourself, you can even buy it at a local Napa for $50. It sounds to me more like some bad plug wires though. Order those through discountrovers.com |

Don't forget to clean it first. It's probably just dirty. |

How fast are you going when you experience the rumble? |

the stepper motor shouldn't shake the car it would only make the idle move up and down and if you go to a landrover dismantler I got my stepper motor for 65 Bucks and if it doesn't work in a year I can take it back and get a new one. and to put it on all you need is to pull out a hose and pull the sending unit out which allows you to reach the bolts then take them out put it back in it takes 5 min. at the most. |
