You want a stepper motor from a high performance GM vehicle with the 5.1 l engine. They were found in among others, the IROC Camaros. You will be looking for an Idle Air Control Valve. They might not recognize stepper motor.

Installation is simple. The IAC valve is the thing that is at the very back of your intake plenum on the passenger side with four wires plugged into it. Unclip the wires, unscrew (use big-assed crescent wrench), spray lots of carb cleaner in opening to remove carbon, apply blue loc-tite, screw new one in, reattach wires.

As for other things to check, depending upon the miles on your rig and the past maintenance, you should probably check the plug wires (the plug end is exposed to some extreme conditions), condition of distributor cap (carbon arcing on inside and outside, cracks, etc.) Rotor (be careful in removal it is easy to disconnect the advance springs, requiring complete disassembly of the distributor and removal from engine), and finally, ignition timing.

Any of those out of limits can cause major performance issues.

Peace,
Paul

The AC Delco Part Number is #25527077.

The NAPA Part # is MPF31738

Why are you replacing this part? I have just usually cleaned mine with carb cleaner and it has functioned fine.

I have a feeling that there are at least two or three stepper motors. First of all, on post '96 vehicle, the IAC valve is not on the back of the plenum and takes a tiny, 5.5mm nut driver to remove it....
