Finally got the "new" 2000 DII home and noticed that it leans, or sags, slightly to the left. Never noticed it at the dealer.....of course, with the excitement and the non-level lot. Took it back today to have it checked out(checked it at home and checked garage floor, it's sagging) and the dealer tells me that ALL LR vehicles lean/sag and that he has never seen one that doesn't. He also said that LR accepts +/- .5" on either side as correct and that my DII was within the spec (measured underneath, looks about 1" lower measured at bumper)and there was nothing that could be done (read, nothing they would do)to fix it. I can't believe that, anyone have a better answer/cure? Thanks!

While it's common to see Rovers sag they tend to sag the other way. FWIW, I've never seen a Disco II sag. Does it have SLS installed? Have the springs ever been replaced? It's possible the springs were installed incorrectly or if you have SLS I would get the SLS sensors recalibrated using TestBook.

Chris: Why do you put the word new, (above, first line in your post) in quotation marks?

We have a 2001, and it does not lean -- never did. I have never heard of this issue on the DII list either.

Either way, that visible a lean seems like more than the +/- half inch spec you cite.

Michael, I think the "new" means new to him, but used.

couldn't the dealer install some shims in between the coil and frame?

Michael, "new" means new to me. It's used with 29K miles on it. The dealer's service rep said that they (LR and the dealer) would not correct the sag since in the eyes of LR, sag is acceptible. I have never seen one sagging either. They claimed that they adjusted the coil when they looked at it but that was all they would do. And, that if I was willing to fork over around $1000 they would order and install new springs (ya right! Still under full warranty and pay their price? NOT). It's frustrating....my next plan is to take it to another LR dealer/independent shop. Any suggestions in the Ventura, Ca area (besides LR T Oaks)?

Chris...

actually..from my understanding the sagging, especially to the left, is there for a reason...
Think about it....put on average a 160 lbs into the drivers seat and you would expect the rover springs to react and compress downwards. The "sagging" of the vehicle that you notice while curbside (outside of the vehicle) is to correct this unbalanced weight increase (you sitting in the vehicle). Try having someone sit in the drivers position and see how level it is then...

It may sound crazy...but its actually quite beneficial...

Chase,

That may make sense however, in this case the left side is the low side so putting someone in the driver's seat would only serve to put the left side down even more. Maybe the previous owner was big and always drove alone?????? Still, I would think the springs could handle a couple hundred pounds.

FJ, I'm going to ask about shim it up, maybe they'll do that.

Has anyone used LR of Encino, I think that may be the next closest dealer to me here in Ventura.

My 97 after about 5K miles, sagged over 1-1/2 inches. Dealer, Dimmitt, with a no-problem attitude, replaced the spring. If find that I am very lucky, first to have a choice of 2 dealers within good proximity and second, at least one has treated me incredibly good. When I read the spew of BS that dealers tell their clients it blow my mind. If you find yourself in an unacceptable situation, then ask Nathan for some new springs and the price is always right.
Good Luck.

Don't shim it. That won't really solve the problem. First find out why it's leaning. It could be that the front springs were put in backwards. (Left spring on the right side)

Chris...
can you just switch the passenger springs to the driver side?

that would atleast balance it out...

just a thought

Chris,

In life as in the case of the dealer, you catch more bears with honey than with shit! This has been my personal experience with my LR dealer. Every year-end I send the whole crew in service some holiday cheer for their unbridled commitment to keep my vehicles looking and running new!

My point is this, after owning a combination of six Discos, Ranges and Defenders, treating and having the guys/gals in service as your friends
can and will go a long long long way! IMO and experience, it pays dividends for a LR owner to have the friendship of their service advisor in their corner, youd be amazed at what they can do when they really want to.

Good luck, and maybe try another local dealer if you have one close enough.

hey, my d2 leaned to the left also. the options the dealer gave me was that they would move the springs from right to left and then if that does not work, then they would replace the springs. they brought the local rep into inspect the car and at the end, they found they could solve the problem by just reposition the springs. that worked.

the d2 is not suppose to lean.
