It feels like shifting from 3rd to second in my 98 disco (auto tranny) just won't happen. At higher speeds, when I step on the gas a little, it just chokes. it revs up and down a little as if it's trying to shift, but can't do it. When I step harder, nothing.
This scares the hell outta me, and I'm hoping I don't need to pour huge amoung into it, again.
Any ideas?

How many miles on the disco, and how does the fluid look? does it smell burnt? if it looks and smells o.k., i would try changing the filter to see if there is an improvement in shifting. i'm not a trans person, just looking for the obvious.

I've had similar problem in the past. Turns out the transmission fluid level was low.
Hope it's nothing major.

I had to replace my tranny when I would excellerate on the gas it would shift down then back up really fast and jerk you back and forth in the seat. To bad when I took it to the dealer for a check when I bought it there were no problems with the tranny. It broke down on me in utah when I was going from Sac to Iowa and was stranded until I could get the piece.

Turns out I think it was just flooded or soemthing... (damn snorkel makes me feel invincible) I'm going to have it looked at and open it up for some good oiling.
