94 D1: I know it uses a speciality tool to remove it; what type of substitue tool? I saw it before the change in servers, know I can't find it. I want to check my CD data/control cable connection as I cannot control any CD player with it. I suspect that the cable may have come loose or was never connected as my beastie did not come with a factory changer. Power connection worked fine with several pioneer boxes, but not the control system. PS: 94 D1 does not require conversion cable for pioneer. |

You know, just when you think you are so smart, God will just give you a little wake up call. I just had a brain storm this morning. It is a two mm allen wrench to release the locks on the sides. I pulled the unit and found that the data cable was cut after the radio's plug. I thank you for reading my post, and I hope that this supplies a good laugh. BTW, the 94 D1 still does not require an adapter cable between the changer and the radio. 95 and up do. |

Hey Bill , just wondering , did your truck actaully have the cd cable pre installed even though you didn't have a changer in there. If so where is the factory changer supposed to mount and how do you access the cable at the cd unit end? I currently have the stock tape deck , and would like a Cd player . I didn't realize that my deck actually had that option. Ken |

Hi Ken! According to my copy of the old Disco work book, the changer mounts on a plate located under the driver seat. The original changer would eject the cd holder to the left as you look down from the seat, in the front corner area (as opposed to the rear corner). There should be two cables under the seat/rear of the center console: a three connector (two used) power connector and a thirteen pin (6 over 7, guides over 6) rectangular data/control cable. The other end of the data cable is attached to the back of the radio in a round DIN plug (guide over 4 over 4 over 4 over 1). The Pioneer MD3 deck uses the same cables and ejects from the end (front or back of seat). I'm going to go back to the stereo shop and test the unit out again, this time pulling the radio out of the bracket and using the data cable that comes with it. If it works, I'll just tear into the center console and exchange the data/control cable and be good to go! |
