What's the minimum thickness for the front and rear rotors when they should be replaced? Talking about Disco I '97. Neither rotor has any marking on it. Thanks. |

Replace'em. The disco brakes are only fair to begin with, when new. Why compromise stopping ability? There is no question, change em out. |

How often should the rotors be replaced? And can they be cut? |

The general consensus is that he rotors get changed every other pad change, and no, they do not get cut. There simply isn't much material to do it. -P |

P, every other pad change seems a bit extreme. I just crossed 90K with mine and am about to do the swap. |

What about the pads?? How thin should the pad be before changing it?? |

Al, Guess it depends on the pads. I get about 50k out of pads. I've got just over 100k on the truck and am below minimum on all 4 rotors. Garrett #2, have a look at a set of new pads. Then have a look at yours. Usually the pads will have a wear indicator that will put up a light on your dash. I don't wait that long, but you might. -P |

50K!!! well that is a lot. I usually got between 20-35K miles on mine. I'm going with the vented kit from dap since it's reasonably priced and should be a slight upgrade from stock. |

The guy I bought my Disco from gave me a new set of rear pads and rotors with the truck. He just had the front brakes done and they told him that the rear brakes didn't need to be done quite yet. I think they do now so should I go ahead and put the new rotors on or just drop in the new pads???? Thanks |

Perrone, that's bs. you don't need to change rotors every pad change. on my 96, front pads go in about 30kmi, my front rotors were turned at the dealer at about 70kmi, and were still over 13mm last Sat. when I put a new set of pads in. peter |

Did you not read my post? I said every other pad change. I changed pads at 60k, and now at 100k. I think changing rotors at 100k is a pretty fair run don't you? -P |

I talked to a LR tech who was installing rear discs on my rig @ 105kmiles. He told me they last for a good long time, about 100k. Perrone, you change your pads every 50k? You must be real light in the loafers. |

My pads were last done at the 60k service. I changed them out again at 97k but they were dangerously thin. I would suggest 25k as reasonable mileage for pads. I am very light on the throttle and light on the brakes. I don't know about light in the loafers since I tend to wear combat boots! -P |
