My '95 heater is working on and off. The fan runs but it blows cold air. Occassionally it will blow hot for a few seconds. The car seems to be running at normal temp...maybe a tad low. Stuck thermo? Bad solonoid? Blocked hose? Any thoughts?? |

Ooooooh....bad experience with that, took me two whole days to undo the dash, fix the heater blower motor, and reinstall everything!!! And I have the simpler '92 dash!...if is was making shrieking noises, then it is the motor, if it is not giving hot air, it is the radiator. Both need the dash to go!
Goodluck! Nadim |

Nadim - Tahnks for the input. The fan runs great! No noises. Does the heater have it's own radiator behind the dash?? -Thanks - - Jay - |

Jay, Nadim might mean the heater core. Check the coolant level. Does the temp move at all? When low on coolant, hot air doesn't get through to you. When really low, they start to overheat. Check the level. If it's a good level, run the truck with the heat on full and leave the resevoir cap and radiator cap off and see if the level goes down. You might have air in there. Brian |

Brian is right...try anything but do not dissassemble the dash! especially the '94s and up! HELL! Good luck, and tell us what went on. |

replace the $10 thermostat while you are doing all this. |

Check coolant level under the hood. If low this is the most likely cause of erratic heating. You may also be hearing a sloshing/bubbling sound when you start up. thats air bubbles in the system |

Nadim, My blower motor is starting to make a bit of a screeching noise when on. It only does this on occassion, not everytime. Is that pretty much the sign of it going out, or is there anything I can do? Thanks. Robbie |

Ok 2 questions: - How do you get the air out?? (I've checked the top plug and it is full when cold, I'll try it running) - Is the thermo easy to replace? I'm a novice and it looks like the screws are not easy to get to?? - Jay - |

If the expansion tank is filled to the proper level your not low on coolant. run it with the cap off and see if air bubbles out. |

Nope no bubbles! I think I need a new thermostat. The engine is running cooler than normal. |

When my heater core went south it began to leak into the cabin into the carpet and I could hear it sloshing around behind the dash. When the heater core goes so does your heat. It is a radiator with a fan behind it to blow the heat through your vents and therefor when it is leaking you will also have a sweet almost pancake syrup-like smell throughout the cabin. If yours is doing this turn your heat control knobs to cold and get your heater core replaced. |
